Look who had a birthday this month…

In the Montessori room Eimear, Darragh & Muddasser all celebrated their 4^th Birthday and in the Afterscool room Eimear celebrated her 12^th Birthday. Many happy returns everyone!!

                                              Reminder

                             

The Montessori ECCE Sessional children will have their mid term break at the end of this week on 23^rd, 24^th & 25^th February. Mother Hubbards Childcare Centre will be closed for everyone on 17^th March and on 18^th March the ECCE Sessional Children will have no school.

                                          

LOOK…what’s been happening in your child’s class this Month…

                            

                          Montessori Room

What a busy month in the Montessori Room! We learnt all about the seven continents talking about where they are on the globe and learning interesting little facts about these places. We have being keeping up with our sounds learning m, g & o and learning all the words that begin with these sounds. We have also been learning the written numerals 8, 9 & 10 and the quantities that go with these numbers. We had fun learning about Chinese New Year-The Year of the Rabbit and we enjoyed making funny rabbit masks. The highlight of the Month though had to be Valentines Day. On the lead up to it we were busy making cards, decorating the classroom and making yummy chocolate chip heart shaped cookies! On the day all the children made a real effort and really did dress to impress. We then all got to dance to some romantic love music. After this we had a fun party with chocolate hearts and jelly hearts. The children really enjoyed it! Next month will be an exciting month also with our Monthly theme ‘All about Me’ and St. Patricks Day and Pyjama Day! We will be having a green day on 16^th so don’t forget all your green clothes and of course your pyjamas on 25^th!!

                                 

                         Afterschool Room

The children in the afterschool room have been taking part in lots of role play this month playing hairdresser, school and restaurant. They also enjoyed making Valentines Day cards and our Valentines Day party.  Also don’t forget your green clothes on 16^th and your pyjamas on 25^th!

                                      

                                    

                                   Stretch & Grow

The Montessori children are really enjoying the Stretch ‘N’ Grow Class and look forward to it every week. They received a little booklet in which they colour a picture relating to the class when it finishes. They will bring home this booklet after the 10 week session is complete.

Welcome/Goodbye

This month we have to say goodbye to Molly in Pre-Montessori. We will miss you very much! We also have to say goodbye to Laura in Toddlers as she is also leaving us and is moving to Belgium. We wish Laura the very best of luck!! We also would like to welcome Tara who is joining our baby room. We hope Tara settles in very well!

We are currently recruiting Laura’s position and will keep you updated.

Opening/Closing Times

We open at 7.15 in the morning and cannot take children from their parents before this time. We close at 6.30pm. Please remember that staff have commitments outside of work so it is important that all children are picked up at 6.30.

Holidays coming up….

The Montessori sessional children will have a mid term in February and will be closed from the 21^st to 25^th of February. The Montessori session will also be closed on the 17^th and 18^th March. The Easter mid term is from the 15^th April to the 3^rd May. 

The centre will be closed for all children on St Patricks Day, Good Friday the 22^nd April and Easter Monday 25^th April.

Do you have any good quality children’s books at home that you don’t use anymore? If so we would love to take them off your hands, with wear and tear of our books in the centre we are always appreciative of new books for the children.

Speech and Drama

Speech and Drama will begin in Pre-Montessori 2(Annette and Lydia’s Room) very shortly. It runs for 10 weeks and cost €60. We will be handing out forms for Speech and Drama within the next week.

Reminders

·        Can all parents please ensure that they supervise their children once they are picked up in the evenings as an accident may occur if a child is left unattended.

·        Speech and Drama is now well under way in Montessori and there are some payments still outstanding, can you please ensure we receive full payment as soon as possible.

·        We are having ongoing problems with the front door and we are in the process of getting it fixed but in the meantime can you please ensure that it is closed properly behind you.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine's Day History

There are varying opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St. Valentine.

Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The date was marked by sending poems and simple gifts.

Reminders

If you change your address, mobile number, work phone number can you please inform us here as we can update your details. So if we need to get in contact with you we have your right details.

Please do not let the children bring in toys from home as they sometimes end up being broken or get lost and it can be very upsetting for the child.

Speech & drama - The time has changed to 10am for Speech & Drama on a Friday

Montessori Sessional Mid-Term

The sessional Montessori will be closed on the 24^th and 25^th February for a small mid-term. We re-open on Monday 28^th.

We are still collecting old mobile’s for the Jack & Jill Foundation. If you have any lying around please bring them in to us and we will pass them on. Thanks!

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2011! We hope you had a nice Christmas and New Year!

Happy Birthday

Welcome

We would like to welcome Helena and Saoirse who have both joined us in the Wobbler Room. We hope you settle in well with your new friends.

Congratulations

Big congratulations to Jonathan and Aimee who have a new baby sister Sarah.

Infection Control

We would appreciate your help in trying to prevent any virus entering the crèche. I would therefore just like to stress the importance of using the hand sanitizer gel before entering any of the children’s rooms. We are advising all parents, staff and visitors to use the gel. We are also encouraging any school going children to use the gel when returning from school and entering the building.

Also for any parents entering the baby, wobbler and toddler rooms we would like to remind you to use the shoe covers provided as this will also help in the prevention and spread of any viruses.

Room Changes

Over the next few weeks some children will be moving into their big rooms. The children will begin to settle into their new rooms shortly. We will speak to each parent before their child moves so the room change runs smoothly.

Gymboree/Speech and Drama

The children will be happy to find out that Gymboree will return on Wednesday the 12^th of January. Each session runs for 8 weeks and costs €40. If you wish you can pay €5 each.

Speech and Drama in the Montessori room is coming to an end shortly. We are hoping to run another session as the children really enjoyed it. It is €60 for 10 weeks. The new term will run from Thursday 27^th January.

Samantha in our playschool room has started up her own business, selling headbands and hair accessories for children. These are handmade by Samantha and can be custom made in your favourite colours or to match a specific outfit!! Welcome to our first newsletter of 2011.

Happy New year to everyone! 

                                            

Congratulations

Firstly we would like to congratulate Sharon on the birth of her baby girl Holly born on 17^th January at 1.29a.m weighing a healthy 7lb 9oz’s. They are both doing very well.

                                              

Reminder

                             

The Montessori ECCE Sessional children will have their mid term break on 23^rd, 24^th & 25^th February. Mother Hubbards Childcare Centre will be closed for everyone on 17^th March and on 18^th March the ECCE Sessional Children will have no school.

                                              

Welcome

                            

We are very pleased to welcome Cliona Martin to our Montessori Classroom. Cliona is studying Montessori & Childcare and will be with us here at Mother Hubbards every Thursday and Friday. We hope she will enjoy her Montessori teaching practice with us.

LOOK…what’s been happening in your child’s class this Month…

                            

                          Montessori Room

This Month has been dedicated to the Solar System learning about the Planet we live on and all those other planets far far away. The children have shown a real interest in this topic and it was lovely to hear them talking about information they learnt at circle time through play or chatting with their friends. We made a special solar system colouring book which the children will bring home this week. They have also learnt a special song called ‘ The family of the Sun’. We had a culture day this week to celebrate Australia Day- 26^th January where we learnt all about Australia-where it is in the world, the Australian Flag and about all the wonderful animals that live there. Throughout this month we have also been learning the sounds h, r & m and the numbers 5, 6 & 7. Next month we have a special ‘day of love’ coming up- Valentines Day!! On Monday 14^th we are going to hold a Valentine Ball in the Montessori Classroom. We would ask the girls to come in pretty dresses and the boys to come in smart shirts and ties if possible!! We will have a little party afterwards.

                                        

                         Afterschool Room

The children in the afterschool room have been busy this month putting together all the Mother Hubbards News in the form of a

Newspaper . They also enjoyed learning more about Australia. We will also hold a little afterschool Valentines Ball on 14^th!!

                                      

                           Stretch & Grow

The Montessori children will have their last Gymboree Class on Friday. We will be holding a Stretch & Grow demonstration next week to see how the children enjoy this fun fitness program! We will then think about starting a 10 week program here at Mother Hubbards.

We would like to welcome Martha to the Pre-Montessori room and her parents Catherine & David.

Dates for the Diary

We are closed 17^th March for St. Patrick’s Day and we are closed on 22^nd of April (Good Friday) & Monday 25^th April (Easter Monday)

Garda Visit

The Montessori children had a visit form the Gardai on Monday 10^th. They were all very excited and got to see the hand cuffs and their walkie talkies. All the children promised to be very careful crossing the road and to wear their seat belts in the car. They are all going to watch out for the police helicopter!         

        

Spare Clothes

We would ask all parents when they are bringing in spare clothes for their child to write their name or write their initial on the labels.

Reminders

If you are bringing medicine into the centre for us to give to your child can everyone make sure they fill out the medicine administration form. Thank you.

We would like to remind parents not to let their child bring in toys to crèche. The children sometimes fight over them or they might break the toy and this can be upsetting for the children. Thank you.

Speech & Drama will be starting back up on Friday 14^th January. It’s the start of a new term. Hilary will bring in new forms for it on Friday.

Also Gymboree is starting back on Thursday 13^th.

Lost & Found

We have a box on the hall table with clothes in it. Can everyone have a look to see if they own anything? If items are not claimed we will give them to charity. Thank you.

I’m sure some parents would recognise Lydia as she did relief work with us, I am now delighted to inform you that Lydia will be joining us on a full time basis. She will work alongside Annette in the Pre-Montessori Room.

Room Changes

You may have noticed some staff have changed rooms and some children have moved to bigger rooms. If you have any queries in relation to your child moving room or staff in your child’s room please do not hesitate to contact us.

Health and Safety

We would like to ask all parents not to park on the path outside the front door and to use the car parking spaces. This is for the health and safety of all children attending the crèche.

Reminders

·        We have altered our menu slightly it is displayed in the main hall.

·        Just a reminder that will close on the 23^rd of December at 6.30pm sharp and re-open on Tuesday 4^th January at 7.15am.

·        We understand that on occasion that parents may be delayed in picking up their children, we would appreciate it if you are going to be late if you could phone us and let us know.

Photographs

Reorders for individual and group photographs will sent on Friday the 17^th and please ensure all reorders and group photos are paid for in advance.

Jack and Jill Foundation

Our Crèche in Nephin Road is collecting old mobile phones in aid of the Jack and Jill Foundation.. Their funding has been cut by over €1 million so this will help raise some vital money. If you have any old mobile phones you would like to donate please drop them in
